Perham junior Becca Huus will be making her 3rd trip to the State Meet, after she qualified at the 8AA Meet at Longbow G.C. in Walker with an 81 on June 1.
The Detroit Lakes girls won another Section 8AA team title, as they will be looking for their 4th straight Class AA State Championship at Ridges at Sand Creek G.C. in Jordan, June 9-10.
The Lakers finished with a 310, a full 80 strokes ahead of runner-up, Thief River Falls (390). The Lady Jackets finished 3rd as a team with a 395.
D.L.’s Katie Smith set a Longbow ladies record with a 67 to earn medalist honors. She is the defending Class AA State Champ.
Huus was one of 5 individual qualifiers with her 81. Teammate Liz Sonnenberg just missed a shot at State by shooting an 89.
Huus finished 21st at State last year with a 2-day total of 165 (86-79). As a freshman in 2013, she finished in a 4-way tie for 31st place with a 2-day, 27-hole total of 128 (The 2nd round at State was shortened by rain in 2013).
Frazee’s Maddisan Parsons shot a 93, just missing a shot at State.
Crookston won the 8AA Boy’s Championship to advance to the State Meet. The Pirates finished with a team score of 313, 9 strokes ahead of runner-up, Detroit Lakes (322). Perham was 3rd with a 323.
Fergus Falls’ Chris Swenson was the medalist, shooting a 73. He was one of 5 individual qualifiers, that included Hawley’s Cody Cook (76).
Perham’s Nate Bormann missed a shot at State by 1-stroke, as he finished with a 79. Frappe’s Calvin Streeper shot a 93.
The Class AA State Meet will be held June 9-10 at Ridges at Sand Creek G.C. in Jordan.
